Spring play

Here are some suggestions and information for recruiting players for spring play. First of all, you can choose between two different circuits for spring play: either Area Q or Section 11. We recommend playing in Area for spring, because Area consists of neighboring cities such as Tustin and Newport Beach so there will be less travel. Section consists of farther cities such as Downey and Long Beach. Usually, Area splits the divisions into even divisions eg. U10, U12, etc. That means that U9 divisions play up in U10, U11 plays in U12 etc. Section tries to keep the odd divisions separate so that U9 teams play against only other U9 divisions, but this is assuming that they have enough U9 teams signed up. Last year, our B9 team chose to play in Section, but they had to play against B10 teams because Section just didn't have enough B9 teams for them to play against.

If you are an odd division planning to play up in Area for spring, you can recruit older players. For example, if your U9 fall team consisted of 2010 players, you can recruit 2009 players to play on your team in the spring because your entire team will play in the U10 division.

You can recruit new players from anywhere: clubs, other regions, allstars, anywhere. For the spring, club players are allowed. Many clubs have a quieter spring season with a few tournaments instead of regular weekly games, so club players may be interested in playing on your team, especially if they can be with a friend that they usually do not play with (because the players are at different tiered teams).

Our allstar teams will most likely have players wanting to join an Extra team for spring play. However, we recommend you wait until they start their allstar season before reaching out to players and families. You can contact the allstar coach with an introduction and let him/her know that you're interested in recruiting players, but the players and families are not ready to commit to spring yet. Let them have get a feel of the allstar season first. Their games start on January 5th; game schedules will probably not be posted until after the New Year. You can look on matchtrak.com under Area Q.

If you would like to find spring players asap, we suggest asking your current players to ask friends and school mates. Let us know if you are looking for spring players, and we will try to help you recruit also.

Don't forget to submit your coach applications. We suggest you get it over with before the craziness of the season takes over. Thanks.
