2018 EXTRA Coach Selection
The 2018 EXTRA Coach Selection committee is comprised of five members:
Regional Commissioner
Regional Coach Administrator
Advanced Play Program Manager (Did not vote in B12U nor B16U selection)
Secretary/Volunteer Coordinator
Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (Did not vote in B16U selection)
Region 213 will be following Section 11 recommendation to focus on the quality of teams rather than the quantity of teams. Therefore, if after tryouts (and after discussions with coach), the Region 213 Board of Directors determines that there are not enough players to form a competitive team in a division, a team will not be created in that division, and all those who tried out will be invited to participate in the rec program.
The first step in the selection process was to determine which coaches have an interest in coaching a specific division. In January 2018, a notice was sent to all current EXTRA coaches and All Star coaches about coaching an EXTRA team in Fall 2018. Some divisions did not receive any applicants. Some divisions received as many as four applicants. Some coaches applied for more than one division, but the Coach Selection Committee will continue to follow the guideline that a coach may coach no more than one division during a season.
The Coach Selection Committee discussed the applicants along with potential applicants who did not apply. I will be presenting the results of the Coach Selection Committee to the Board of Directors for approval.
At this time, the Coach Selection Committee has recommendations for the following divisions: B09U, B13U, B14U, B16U, B19U, G10U, and G11U. I will privately contact these coaches to notify them that they are tentatively assigned as the coach, pending certification commitment, board approval, and team quality.
The Coach Selection has candidates with whom I will need to discuss the opportunity for the following divisions:
B10U, B11U, B12U, and G14U.
There are currently no candidates for the following divisions:
G09U, G12U, G13U, G16U, and G19U.
All selected coaches will be expected to bring their coaching certification level up to the level required by the EXTRA program:
9U-10U: 12U certification
11U-12U: Intermediate certification
13U-19U: Advanced certification
Assistant Coaches will be selected by each head coach. Each Assistant Coach is expected to have the same coach certification level as the head coach.
Fusion team tryout will be on Feb. 12, 13, 21, and 22. The Region will be notifying all current players. We will also notify the leaders of our neighboring regions. I am scheduled to meet with the new Professional Trainers tomorrow where we will come up with a tryout plan to evaluate all players who show up at the tryouts. Please plan to attend as many of the tryout sessions as possible to assist with rating players. I will send out a signup sheet this week.
